Earth and Moon

I did this cake for fashion designer Luly Yang here in Seattle. Her son was having a birthday party at the Pacific Science Center and she wanted something to do with space. We brainstormed together and this is what we came up with.
Unfortunately this cake had 3 finger marks (on the USA) from the birthday boy himself! Hate it when that happens before the picture gets taken! Oh well...still a fun cake. The earth was formed from Rice Crispy treats. Each layer was a different color to represent the different layers of the earth. The rocket I molded from white chocolate and used red fondant for the band. I owe it to my awesome Cake Cricut for getting perfectly cut letters from red gum paste. The alien cupcakes I also made along with the cake, because they were just too cute not too! I got the alien idea from this book called Hello Cupcake. Love that book! Best cupcake book ever!
